The stunning Hotel Marqués de Riscal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Elciego, is located in Elciego, in La Rioja’s Álava province. Designed by Frank Gehry, this avant-garde hotel offers free WiFi, a spa and 2 restaurants.

David Rating: 3 2021-10-26 Favbulous hotel badly let down by arrogant and unhelpful front of house staff at £700 per night I would have expected to be put into the room I paid for. Instead I spent the first night in a room facing the hotel and not the vineyards which is what I reserved. The hotel were not particularly bothered and I received a real Computer says no response. The hotel made no effort to compensate for their mistake, which they acknowledged. I will not go back there again. Even though the hotel is beyond exceptional , the staff are more akin to the level of service one would expect in a travelodge.

I booked this as a standout surprise treat for my husband, for the amazing architecture of the main building, and it was a great stopover between Burgos and San Sebastian, with a few hours at Santo Domingo de las Calzada on the way. The welcome felt warm and presented a genuine interest in ensuring a good experience. It included a winery tour which was great. I booked a meal at the 1860 Tradicion restaurant and it was gorgeous; we sat with a magnificent view of the town and cathedral of Elciego, all lit up. Drinks on the terrace first. A swim in the pool, sunbathe by the vines. As for our room, well it was expensive, but it was utterly gorgeous, with a massive terrace on which to relax. We could have had breakfast on the terrace but instead had it outside in the restaurant. It was a fabulous experience! We also bought 18 bottles of the wine that I had for dinner! I wish Id bought more.

Vitor Rating: 4 2020-09-27 Over-the-top style with luxury to spare The hotels jaw-dropping architecture is more than enough reason to drive all the way to La Rioja, but I must confess I was not expecting the restaurant to be so well-run and especially well-staffed: everyone was extremely welcoming, courteous and professional (special reference must be made to Setay, our porter, and to the lady who served us breakfast, but whose name I did not catch). We had a light meal for lunch at the hotel, along with dinner at the more informal restaurant (where a vegetarian menu was created especially for us) and breakfast the following day - the standard is as high as one would expect in this type of hotel. We also used the swimming pool and were offered a tour of the winery that surrounds the hotel. The bedroom was very spacious and extremely well-appointed. We loved every minute of our stay!
